Persimmon Church of God

is a warm, and loving congregation nestled in the Northeast Georgia Mountains of Rabun County, Georgia. Founded in 1921 Persimmon Church of God has a rich heritage of faith, hope and love. As a family of faith, our desire is to “Love God and Love Others.”

Our worship style blends many facets and taste. Each Sunday music spanning many generations …a powerful choir, modern and traditional worship songs led by a dynamic praise team…all combine to provide a passionate worship experience. Anointed messages from the pastor, derived from biblical foundations, provide a pathway to God’s answers for life’s modern challenges.! Our dress is everything from suits to jeans…in other words, we want everyone to be comfortable as we worship Jesus. And children…we have great resources dedicated just to their needs!

We Believe

    • In the verbal inspiration of the bible.
    • In one God eternally existing in three persons; namely, the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
    • We believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father, conceived of the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus was crucified, buried, and raised from the dead. That He ascended to heaven and is today at the right hand of the Father as the Intercessor.
    • That all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and that repentance is commanded of God for all and necessary for forgiveness of sins.
    • That justification, regeneration, and the new birth are wrought by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ.
    • In sanctification subsequent to the new birth, through faith in the blood of Christ; through the Word, and by the Holy Ghost.
    • We believe holiness to be God’s standard of living for His people.
    • In the baptism with the Holy Ghost subsequent to a clean heart.
    • In speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance and that it is the initial evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
    • We believe divine healing is provided for all in the atonement.
    • In the Lord’s Supper and washing of the saints’ feet.
    • In the premillennial second coming of Jesus. First, to resurrect the righteous dead and to catch away the living saints to Him in the air. Second, to reign on the earth a thousand years.
    • We believe in the bodily resurrection, eternal life for the righteous, and eternal punishment for the wicked.

    Bruce and Donna Pendrey have been members of Persimmon Church of God for more than 30 years. They currently fulfill the role of music directors over the music ministry at Persimmon.

    Ministry

    Children’s Church Sunday Morning
    Every Sunday morning except the 1st Sunday of each month we offer Children’s Church for younger kids.

    Nursery 
    Every Sunday Nursery is provided for children from infant to 4 years of age. The Nursery’s Class room is close to our sanctuary.

    Wednesday Nights Children and Youth Experience
    We provide a fun and multi-curricular atmosphere for children ages Pre-k -12th grade . Bring your kids and come worship with
    us! Bible stories are learned, and early friendships are developed. Our Children and Teens Program is a safe and sociable
    environment. These young lives are the foundation of tomorrow’s Church, and we are proud of our future leaders. Sound biblical
    truths are conveyed and good times are had as the groups meet for bible-study on Wednesday nights.

    Teenage Youth Group
    Our teens enjoy a diverse schedule of events and lesson plans. We attend Church of God sponsored “Winterfest” each year and

    Men’s and Women’s Fellowship
    Provides fellowship and service opportunities for anyone who would like to be involved.

    Music
    We have truly been blessed with a talented group of singers and musicians who strive to give God the glory in all aspects of
    worship. Sunday morning music consists of both traditional choir hymnals and contemporary praise and worship songs. Everyone
    is invited to sing in the choir. Our praise and worship team focuses on exalting Jesus Christ and setting the tone for a
    reverent service.

    History

    In 1918, Rev. Jesse Rogers began holding service in the Boiling Springs School House and in private homes in the Persimmon Community. In 1920, George Kilby, donated a piece of ground in order to construct the Quartz Church of God. The church was set in order on October 26, 1920. The church name was later changed to the Mt. Olive Church of God and then at a later time changed to the Persimmon Church of God. This name is still being used.
